Kumasi Presenters Are Likely To Boycott RTP Awards 2015
Information reaching Flex newspaper indicates that a section of Kumasi-based radio presenters are angry at the recently released nominees list and are planning to boycott the 2015 edition of the Radio and Television Personality (RTP) Awards, which is set to take place at the Accra International Conference Centre on 10th October.
A few days after the organizers, Big Events Ghana, released the nominees list for the scheme, some Kumasi presenters came out to express their opinions about the RTP awards. While some felt left out and angry, others said with or without awards, feedbacks from their audience are rewarding enough for them.
Broadly speaking, one may ask why a portion of these presenters are expressing such opinions when a few of their colleagues from the same region have been nominated. They are lamenting because they feel the organizers have in a way not been fair to them since majority of the nominees are Accra-based.
According to them, entertainment shows like Boss FM Countdown, Ash FM’s Entertainment Zone, Hello FM’s Entertainment Review, Nhyira FM Entertainment, Angel FM Entertainment, Luv FM’s Private Party, Kessben FM’s Entertainment Circle, Metro FM Entertainment and the likes should have all been nominated together with their hosts, to rock shoulders with the other shows in the various categories.
However, when Flex Newspaper contacted an undisclosed Kumasi-based top broadcaster in relation to the matters arising after the release of the nominees list and Flex Newspaper’s tip-offs, he refused to give any information pertaining to the next resort of some of his fellow colleagues in the industry. This leaves us in an agitated state, as to whether grievances of certain Kumasi-based entertainment show hosts will compel them to boycott the upcoming RTP Awards.
The RTP Awards is an award scheme which seeks to recognize and reward the work of Radio and TV personalities for their immense contribution towards the media development in Ghana.
Since its inception in 2011, many renowned Ghanaian Radio and Television personalities have benefited from it in one way or the other. The public is given the opportunity to vote for their favorite nominees while a panel of judges collate the votes to determine the winners.
